About the session

Many software development teams work with a User Experience specialist, but many see this as a part of their workflow - a designer creates some page designs and might run it by a few people before they build it, for example. It is a role within a team that can be seen as a blocker, an inconvenience and is frankly sometimes completely disregarded.

We want to share a story where the opposite was true. We were members of a brand new team put together to help an area of our organisation which had been thrown into digital ways of working during the covid-19 pandemic. UX became the core of what we were doing, our whole team engaged - observing and inputting to every user research session that was held.

We gained a shared understanding of the problems - FAST, we delivered real value - FAST. And all with the developers spending several hours a week watching users and talking about what they observed, rather than spending that time writing code. We delivered changes to tech, but also gave the leadership team valuable insights which helped them make changes to their own ways of working, creating a more sustainable department for the future.

Join us to hear about when User Research became the core of our team’s work. The whole team working together to watch and understand our users' needs. Coming to shared conclusions which helped us to identify the little nuggets that could deliver value fast - both through technology and new ways of working. Maybe you’ll hear something that could help your teamwork more closely with their users too.

Themes: Product Design, UX, User Research, Team, Collaboration, Research, Cross functional team
